Summertime in Michigan means the start of Farmers Markets! Shopping at Farmers Markets is a win win-win for farmers, shoppers and communities; farmers receive more of the food dollars, shoppers receive a huge selection of the freshest food from their area and local economies flourish. Fresh fruits and vegetables are a given at farmers market but depending on the location and time of year there can be a variety of additional products for sale like baked goods, flowers and local crafts.
We know that supporting Farmers Markets means supporting local communities across the state; in the last 12 years we have supported Farmers Markets across Michigan with grants totaling more than $600,000. If you’re looking for a new farmers market to check out this summer, try one of our previous grant recipients.
