Thousands of West Michigan residents and dozens of businesses will benefit from a more than $28 million investment in several projects that will help support capacity and reliability in the area. That will mean fewer outages and a shorter amount of time our customers will be impacted.
These investments also support the local economy by enabling growth at businesses.
“We work closely with energy providers like Consumers Energy to ensure business expansion projects are successful and our region’s business energy needs are supported,” said Lakeshore Advantage President Jennifer Owens. “Increased reliability will be an asset to West Michigan as our region’s employers continue to expand.”
Lakeshore Advantage is a Michigan economic development organization serving new and current businesses and entrepreneurs in Allegan and Ottawa counties.
Recently completed projects in West Michigan that will help us chart our reliability future include a new bulk power substation and the replacement of aging equipment to help increase efficiency and reliability.
These projects provide increased capacity and reliability to the Coopersville area, and we have plans for additional projects as well.
Fairlife, a company that makes specialized milk, and Continental Dairy, which provides milk products to manufacturers around the world, are just two of the businesses that benefit from these investments.
“Our customers depend on us to keep the lights on in their businesses and homes,” said Bill Wadsworth, senior economic development manager. “These capacity and reliability projects will help us not only accomplish that, but also help us with our economic development mission in retaining and recruiting businesses to West Michigan.”
These projects, along with many others underway, will help us provide safe, reliable and affordable service and envision a future where no single outage will affect more than 100,000 customers and all customers will have their power restored within 24 hours after an outage. The plan to make this a reality is outlined in our Reliability Roadmap.
