You’ve probably heard the month of March comes in like a lion and out like a lamb. Well in Michigan, we’re finding the month of August to do just the opposite.
The last four years, Mother Nature has given a violent farewell to summer – leaving a mess in her wake. The good news? This year, we were prepared.
Tuesday afternoon, Michigan was hit hard with a series of storms that produced high winds and devastated several communities – leaving around 200,000 customers without power.
Cleveland Reid, a lineworker out of Muskegon, said he looked up and got an eerie feeling as the skies darkened.
“Here comes another storm right in front of me,” he thought. Then he immediately moved to action. “It’s time to get ready. We always rise to the challenge.”
Storms are becoming a common occurrence this time of year. That’s why we’re hard at work on our Reliability Roadmap – a plan to achieve fewer and shorter power outages. And our lineworkers, dispatchers and others are always prepped and ready to respond when outages happen.
Each year, restoration times get faster. In fact, this week, we restored 100,000 customers in just 24 hours – proof that our Reliability Roadmap is working.
Shane Miron, supervisor of electric operations on the west side of the state, said fallen trees were the focus of crews in Greenville on Wednesday. Miron praised his team and shared his confidence for any future storms.
“We’ve pulled together and are handling this one, and we will be ready for the next,” he said. “It’s who we are.”
